#tdih 1847, several hundred citizens of Marshall, Michigan, helped Adam and Sarah Crosswhite and their children escape from being kidnapped and forced back into human bondage. This case led to the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850 to make this type of humanity and solidarity illegal.
