Regarding your letter:
‘Choice Schools for All’s
Dear Jeffrey,
Thank you for contacting me to share your support for public education. I believe there must be a strong federal commitment to public education and the programs that help students thrive in the classroom.
The appointment of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has raised many concerns about the future of public education. She has a long record of pushing policies that have seriously undermined public education in Michigan, including using public funds – like school vouchers – to pay for private education. I will closely monitor her actions and fight any attempts to undermine the Department of Education’s mission of ensuring that each student has access to a quality public education.
As Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, which oversees the school lunch and breakfast programs, I also know that kids can’t learn, grow, and succeed if they aren’t getting nutritious meals. I will continue working to protect the progress we have made to serve healthier school meals and to keep us moving forward to reach more hungry children.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
